A former client of ours paid us a visit, looking to revamp the look and feel of his Volkswagen GTi. Already running Bilstein’s B8 shock absorbers as well as H&R’s anti-roll bars, his hot hatch handled like a dream but through his eyes, his Golf GTi it was still lacking a certain wow factor. With that in mind, he headed over to our office to have a look at how we could spice up the look of his car.

Upon stepping into our office’s showroom floor, he was greeted by a myriad of wheel design options and knew that one of our wheel designs could do the trick in hyping up the look and feel of his GTi. He looked at our extensive line up of Vorsteiner products and he spotted the V-FF 111 wheel design. 

With a unique overlapping V-spoke design, the V-FF 111 wheel boasts a design profile never before seen in this segment of wheels and as a result, our client wanted a set of these wheels installed on his ride! Given that he was satisfied with a set of wheels in an 18-inch form factor, we had the V-FF 111 wheels installed in a size of 8.5J x 18-inches all around and they we’re finished in Vorsteiner’s Signature Carbon Graphite color scheme to deliver a perfect contrast with the GTi’s paintwork. 

After the installation of the wheels, we knew our client was more than happy with the whole makeover. Whilst conducting a short photography session of his car, we caught the owner smiling away at the corner of our camera lenses and we knew it was a job well done on our side. In our opinion, the GTi looks absolutely fantastic! With the new wheels, this Golf GTi would not only look great but drive even better, especially with the wheels working and complementing the other upgraded suspension components.

Day in and day out, dozens and dozens of BMW especially F30’s would pay us visits, complaining about it’s loose handling and floaty dynamics and the solutions to their problems that we could provide is a set of Bilstein’s Passive Performance Suspension systems which range from the B6, B8, B12 ProKit, B14 and the B16 PSS10. The Bilstein B6 aims to pair Bilstein shock absorbers with factory springs, Bilstein’s B8 shock absorbers are designed to be partnered with a set of lowering springs, Bilstein’s B12 is an all in one suspension kit which consists of B8 shock absorbers & Eibach lowering springs and the higher end Bilstein B14 & B16 PSS 10 offers ride height adjustment along with soft/hard damping adjustments on the latter.

A perfect replacement and an even better upgrade, Bilstein has designed & engineered the B6 Damptronic Suspension System to deliver higher levels of control in comparison with the BMW F2X/F3X’s factory stock dampers. This latest addition of Bilstein’s suspension range enables full function of the vehicle’s drive mode systems (Comfort, Sport, Sport +) by working with the BMW’s stock suspension control module and requires no coding or modifications whatsoever. This would enhance and uprate the dynamics of the vehicle whilst retaining the users ability to individually select the levels of damping or stiffness that they desire without any issues.

When this Volkswagen Passat CC paid us a visit, we knew it already came equipped with adaptive shock absorbers (DCC) giving its users the ability to switch damping stiffness. However, being a five-year old vehicle, our client felt that the handling of the car was deteriorating with its age and mileage. As such, he was looking for a perfect replacement for his stock shocks that would deliver both absolute performance and a lowered stance that he was looking for. Delving in to the world of Bilstein’s high performance shock absorbers was a good step for our client as replacing the adaptive shocks with Volkswagen’s original shock absorbers would be a five-figure cost without any improved handling. Despite the Bilstein shocks not having adaptive damping capabilities, it was designed to deliver maximum performance whilst retaining a comfortable ride with this set of shocks being much more affordable as compared to Volkswagen’s stock shocks.

With our experience in the aftermarket industry, especially with Bilstein components, we instantly recommended him a set of Bilstein’s B8 shock absorbers as these shocks were built for the lowered stance he was looking for. The marriage of Bilstein’s B8 suspension system along with the H&R springs he requested would easily outperform the Volkswagen’s stock adaptive shocks (DCC) and deliver a better ride/handling compromise and also improving the Passat’s aesthetics. Keeping ride harshness at a minimum, and maximizing the vehicle performance along with a sportier stance, this is how we infuse motorsport technologies on to the streets!

We met the owner of this attention-grabbing car when he dropped by our showroom to purchase a suspension kit. Of course, being the exclusive distributor of Bilstein products, we recommended the installation of the Bilstein B8 suspension system. However, when our attention was drawn back to his car, we noticed a set of great looking Vorsteiner V-FF 103 wheels finished in Carbon Graphite. The wheels fitted to the car are measured at 8.5J x 19″ and 10J x 19″, a staggered layout. As our marketing on the Vorsteiner brand has been very strong and being so, our distribution network has been advanced further giving our clients the ability to purchase their products from us or from our appointed premium dealers. Given that this amazing looking car was parked right outside our showroom, we seized the opportunity to grab a few photos of the car for this feature. Vorsteiner’s wheels feature technologies that enable the production of wheels that are lighter in weight compared to a conventional cast construction, yet substantially stronger.

The installation of the suspension system took about two to three hours and once completed, we asked the owner for his review. With the Vorsteiner wheels already fitted to the car and a set of Bilstein B8 shocks, the owner commented that the car corners flat and with confidence. Body roll is kept to a minimum and there is no understeer whatsoever. The wheels work in tandem with the new shocks to improve driving dynamics as the wheels are low in weight.

At Autofuture Design, we carry many brands in our portfolio, available for fitment at the customers demands but when we drew our attention to this particular Golf, we advised and recommended the customer that Vorsteiner’s V-FF 103 finished in Carbon Graphite would fit this Golf perfectly. He agreed with us initially but, as with every other Golf GTi owner, he was afraid that the step-up in size from 18″ to 19″ would deteriorate the cars performance and handling as he was concerned on the increase in weight from 18″ to 19″.

That said, as we work closely with Vorsteiner, with their technological advancements in construction technology, despite the increase in size, the V-FF 103 wheels weigh lighter than the 18″ stock wheels on the Golf GTi. These wheels are measured at 8.5J x 19″ at all four corners but each wheel weighs only 9.89kg. To match all the red accents on his car, we threw in a set of Vorsteiner Limited Edition Red Centre Caps. Last but not least, we wrapped the new wheels with Europe’s finest, Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

Days later, the same customer visited us again, feeling amazingly satisfied with his new wheels. He reported the tremendous difference in weight as the new wheels are much lighter than stock and claimed that the car could turns with more agility and responsiveness. Therefore, with his car back at our showroom, we immediately grabbed the opportunity to photograph and showcase his car. On the downside, he also stated that with the new increase in performance, he felt that his suspension system was not up to the job at keeping his car under control. As such, with our experience in Golf GTi modifications, we suggested the fitment of Bilstein’s B8 sports suspension system. In the end, the customer decided to forgo his standard DCC suspension system and replaced it with Bilstein’s B8 suspension system. All in all, with ultra-light wheels and an uprated suspension system this Golf GTi not only feels new, but also performs much better than its initial stock set up.

As this is a common problem amongst F30’s, an owner with an immaculate F30 in Melbourne Red, visited our showroom with intentions of replacing his stock suspension system. Reason being that, the amount of roll through a corner just dulls out the drivers confidence and that the car does not stay level or planted through a bend. After having a short chat to determine which suspension system would meet his demands perfectly, we decided to fit the Bilstein B12 Pro Kit along with a H&R Anti-Roll bar to improve the handling characteristics of the car.

To remove the presence of body roll, we replaced the stock anti-roll bar with an H&R Anti-Roll bar. For the clarity of readers, the replacement of the anti-roll bar is necessary to achieve better handling as the stock anti-roll bar lacks rigidity and thickness. The new anti-roll bar is now measured at 28mm in the front and 20 mm in the rear, a much more thicker profile than the stock anti-roll bar. Moving on to the suspension components, replacing the old suspension system with Bilstein’s B12 Pro Kit definitely stiffens up the Beemer’s chassis. With the B12 Pro Kit, Bilstein has managed to produce a suspension system that brings forward the perfect combination of B8 absorbers and Eibach performance springs. Whilst preserving ride quality comparable to the B8 suspension system, the addition of Eibach springs ensures that the car remains flat and level through any corner whatsoever. As an additional side benefit, the Eibach springs drop the cars height by 25mm-30mm enhancing both aesthetics, and dropping the centre of gravity for better handling.

As the applications were wrapped up, we accompanied the owner of the car for a short 10-minute test drive and immediately the difference was felt. Through corners, the car felt completely stable, inspiring driver confidence. All at the same time, the components work simultaneously to ensure that the car remains planted through the corners. As a plus point, we went through a minefield of potholes to test the ride quality and the new set up, though stiffer is still comfortable.
