A client contacted us looking for a set of 22 inch wheels that’ll suit his BMW X5 xDrive 40e Hybrid! With all the dozens and dozens of makeovers done on this F15 series X5, I believe that no one else knows this car better than we do! As such, we advised our client to come on over to our showroom to have a better glance at our wheels in person. Only when he paid us a visit, he notified us on his desires to have a set of staggered 22 inch tires installed on his X5 and what came after was a bit of a shock to us…

Our most popular 22 inch wheel would be Vorsteiner’s V-FF 107 and with Vorsteiner’s new V-FF 109 wheel being launched, we introduced both wheel designs to our client. While we did test fit both sets of 22 inch wheels on to his car, our client loved the looks of the V-FF 107 wheel. However, our client was not truly happy and satisfied with the fact that our 22 inch wheels are not offered in staggered sets. With that in his mind, he left our office looking for other options of 22 inch staggered wheels.

Our client was looking for a set of 22 inch staggered wheels and rather unfortunately, as Vorsteiner’s sole exclusive distributor in Malaysia and Singapore, we do not bring in staggered sets of 22 inch wheels with the reason being that, the tire sizes required to wrap up the wheels are simply not available in the Malaysian market.

A week later he returned to our showroom for the sole purpose of fitting a set of lowering springs. As additional info, as the Malaysian F15 X5 hybrid series comes with rear air suspension, H&R provides BMW X5 users with a pair of front lowering springs along with a pair of rear suspension link rods to lower the rear ride height equally with the front ride height.

His X5 boasted a set of a brand of wheels fitted in a staggered, 22 inch size to our surprise. This brand of which will go unnamed in our article is a popular brand for their imitations of popular wheel designs such as Vorsteiner’s V-FF 107 wheel design and other popular wheel designs out there. While the brand was able to replicate the V-FF 107’s wheel design, the minute details and low weight figures that sets Vorsteiner’s wheels apart from the crowd is absent from the mix.

Coming back to the wheels, we were surprised to see that our client took the the plunge on a set of staggered wheels and to shock us even more, his set of staggered wheels were wrapped up with a set of tires in a square set up which does not make sense at all! There’s no way possible that a set of square tires would ever work well on a set of staggered wheels! The rear tyres were as narrow as the front fitment of tires and was too stretched out to be fitted on the wider rear wheels! We advised him appropriately that with a square set of tires fitted on to a staggered set of wheels, it’ll ruin the drive and road holding of the car. Anyways, our job was completed as the installation of the suspension components was done and that was that.

Driving home from our office, our client was contemplating on the advise we gave him. He knew now that the seller had misinformed him and was in a dilemma after finding out the truth of his wheels and the fitment of his wheels. Three weeks later, he paid us a visit ready to swap out his set of aftermarket wheels for a set of our Vorsteiner V-FF 107 wheels.

All Malaysian X5’s come with flared, extended wheel arches and to ensure a perfect fit on is BMW X5, we fitted a set of 20mm BLOX Sport spacers in the rear to ensure a perfect flush fitment of his wheels. With the 10-multidimensional spokes on the front face of the wheel, featuring a mesh design, one may be forgiven for expecting the V-FF 107 wheel to be heavier in weight as compared to the other wheels out there. However, those spokes are as much for design as it is for durability & strength! The V-FF 107 wheel easily shaves off 30% of the weight of the X5’s previous aftermarket 22 inch alloys, while being as strong as a forged wheel. Those concaved spokes provide a much higher level of structural integrity to give an evermore increased level of strength and durability.

All in all, you get what you pay for. While other brands may offer designs which are similar, they’ll never be as good as the brands that we carry which are one of the best in the world.
