Bilstein B12 Pro Kit + H&R Anti-Roll Bar Equipped On A BMW F30
The name, 3-Series… A car popular for setting the benchmark in the sports sedan segment. That said, in this day and age, as the exclusive distributor of Bilstein Sports Suspension Systems we can report that the enquiries for suspension systems have been increasing overtime due to the lackluster performance of original suspension systems that have been deemed inadequate for performance driving. Luxury car manufacturers have prioritised a more soft and comfortable ride whilst placing handling performance in second place. No doubt, the BMW, known for its “Sheer Driving Pleasure” can most definitely take on those curves on the way home, however, with the soft suspension system and the presence of body roll, it retracts the driver from feeling confident in the corners. Being so, the stock suspension system of the Beemer rather dulls out the driving experience promised on a 3-Series.
As this is a common problem amongst F30’s, an owner with an immaculate F30 in Melbourne Red, visited our showroom with intentions of replacing his stock suspension system. Reason being that, the amount of roll through a corner just dulls out the drivers confidence and that the car does not stay level or planted through a bend. After having a short chat to determine which suspension system would meet his demands perfectly, we decided to fit the Bilstein B12 Pro Kit along with a H&R Anti-Roll bar to improve the handling characteristics of the car.
To remove the presence of body roll, we replaced the stock anti-roll bar with an H&R Anti-Roll bar. For the clarity of readers, the replacement of the anti-roll bar is necessary to achieve better handling as the stock anti-roll bar lacks rigidity and thickness. The new anti-roll bar is now measured at 28mm in the front and 20 mm in the rear, a much more thicker profile than the stock anti-roll bar. Moving on to the suspension components, replacing the old suspension system with Bilstein’s B12 Pro Kit definitely stiffens up the Beemer’s chassis. With the B12 Pro Kit, Bilstein has managed to produce a suspension system that brings forward the perfect combination of B8 absorbers and Eibach performance springs. Whilst preserving ride quality comparable to the B8 suspension system, the addition of Eibach springs ensures that the car remains flat and level through any corner whatsoever. As an additional side benefit, the Eibach springs drop the cars height by 25mm-30mm enhancing both aesthetics, and dropping the centre of gravity for better handling.
As the applications were wrapped up, we accompanied the owner of the car for a short 10-minute test drive and immediately the difference was felt. Through corners, the car felt completely stable, inspiring driver confidence. All at the same time, the components work simultaneously to ensure that the car remains planted through the corners. As a plus point, we went through a minefield of potholes to test the ride quality and the new set up, though stiffer is still comfortable.
