We’ve had a lot of visits by VW Golf owners and yet again another customer visited us looking for a set of wheels to match his customised Mk6 Golf GTi.

At Autofuture Design, we carry many brands in our portfolio, available for fitment at the customers demands but when we drew our attention to this particular Golf, we advised and recommended the customer that Vorsteiner’s V-FF 103 finished in Carbon Graphite would fit this Golf perfectly. He agreed with us initially but, as with every other Golf GTi owner, he was afraid that the step-up in size from 18″ to 19″ would deteriorate the cars performance and handling as he was concerned on the increase in weight from 18″ to 19″.

That said, as we work closely with Vorsteiner, with their technological advancements in construction technology, despite the increase in size, the V-FF 103 wheels weigh lighter than the 18″ stock wheels on the Golf GTi. These wheels are measured at 8.5J x 19″ at all four corners but each wheel weighs only 9.89kg. To match all the red accents on his car, we threw in a set of Vorsteiner Limited Edition Red Centre Caps. Last but not least, we wrapped the new wheels with Europe’s finest, Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

Days later, the same customer visited us again, feeling amazingly satisfied with his new wheels. He reported the tremendous difference in weight as the new wheels are much lighter than stock and claimed that the car could turns with more agility and responsiveness. Therefore, with his car back at our showroom, we immediately grabbed the opportunity to photograph and showcase his car. On the downside, he also stated that with the new increase in performance, he felt that his suspension system was not up to the job at keeping his car under control. As such, with our experience in Golf GTi modifications, we suggested the fitment of Bilstein’s B8 sports suspension system. In the end, the customer decided to forgo his standard DCC suspension system and replaced it with Bilstein’s B8 suspension system. All in all, with ultra-light wheels and an uprated suspension system this Golf GTi not only feels new, but also performs much better than its initial stock set up.
